Dubai has recently come up as a new destination for Medical Tourism for the shopping enthusiasts to avail world-class medical facilities at relatively low cost while enjoying the freedom of duty free shopping in a surprisingly safe and welcoming country. In the medical tourism front, it already claims two JCI-accredited hospitals and a number of other specialty clinics.
Dubai has 22 working hospitals, of which 77% are private and 33% public. To further increase the visit of foreign patients, UAE with the help of Harvard Medical International (HMI) targeted to open Dubai Health Care City (DHCC).
DHCC is comprised of a core Academic Medical Center (AMC), constituting of the Harvard Medical School Dubai Center (HMSDC) Institute for Postgraduate Education and Medical Research, a University Teaching Hospital (UTH) and the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research (DHFMR).
DHCC is the numerous specialised 'cities-within-a-city' in Dubai targeted at the healthcare and the pharmaceutical industries. This 435-acre, 4.1 million-square-feet, state of the art international mecca for healthcare will cater to medical travelrs from all over the world. A total of 17 hospitals with 780 beds are planned to be open there with the speciality categorization as:

- Orthopaedic Hospital
- Urology Hospital
- General Hospital I - Cardiology
- General Hospital II - Obstetrics

Recently the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery Hospital (AACSH) has opened a branch at Dubai Healthcare City. The AACS have a number of units including the anti-aging department for non-invasive services and injectable therapy, as well as a laser therapy unit. There are cosmetic surgery department, reconstructive plastic surgery department and hair restoration surgery department in the surgical unit. The other services available include pre and post-surgical psychotherapy, nutrition, a smile enhancement clinic for advance services of cosmetic dentistry and maxillofacial unit, as well as a beauty club for pre and post surgical rehabilitation.
